Matthew Hayden of Chennai super King is in great form as he scored 65 runs from 35 balls which helped his team to post the highest T20 total on this ground of Port Elizabeth. This was the real 20-20 match as the batsemen were entirely dominated the whole session. The opening partnership between Parthiv Patel and Hayden produced 106 runs in 10 overs. Parthiv hit 2 fours and one six in his 30 run innings. Hayden hit 2 sixes and 9 fours before he was miserably run out by the direct hit from Dravid. Dhoni ( 16 runs, 1 six) and Raina (28 runs, 1 four, one six) tried to keep the high run rate. But it was Flintoff who quick fired 22 runs from 13 balls (2 fours, 1 six) which helped Chennai Kings to achieve the mammoth total of 179 with the loss of five wickets. Praveen Kumar got two wickets. Kevin Peterson and Dale Steyn took one wicket each. Jacques Kallis is the most expensive bowler for Bangalore Royals as his two overs produced 28 runs.
While chasing a good target, it is a common strategy to make successful opening partnership. But Bangalore Royals lost their first wicket of Praveen Kumar without adding any runs to the scoreboard. Though Kallis and Robin Uthappa tried to score the runs in a faster manner, both of them failed to achieve the target. Uthappa out for 20 and Kallis scored 24 runs. After that there was a sudden collapse. Kevin Pieterson went for a duck and Rose taylor out for just one run. The hero of the previous match Rahul Dravid could score only 20 runs. The only six from royal challengers came from Virat Kohli’s bat. Thanks to the brilliant bowling performance by the spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, who took 3 wickets for 11 runs which restricted the royal challengers total to 87 runs in 15.2 overs. Chennai Kings won by 92 runs and this was their first win in the second version of IPL.
