PAKISTAN WON ICC 20-20 WORLD CUP


Afridi finally played a sensible innings in the final of 20-20 World Cup Cricket against the mighty Srilankans. By scoring 54 runs from 40 balls which include 2 fours and 2 sixes, proved that he is now capable of playing matured innings like any senior player in the team.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat first considering their bowling strength. But Man of the Series, Dilshan went for a duck in the crucial match and Lankan collapsed to 32/4 in 5.3 overs. Then the brilliant innings from Captain Sangakkara helped the Lankans to achieve 138 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. He scored unbeaten 64 runs from 52 balls with 7 fours. Bowler Angelo Mathews supported him by scoring 35 runs (24 balls, 3 fours, 1 six). Abdul Razzaq was the most successful bowler for Pakistan who took 3 wickets (Sanath Jayasuriya, Jehan Mubarak and Mahela Jayawardene) for 20 runs in 3 overs.


Pakistan started their innings very carefully. Kamran Akaml is in aggressive mood and he quick fired 37 runs from 28 balls (2 fours, 2 sixes). But he fell to Jayasurya and the opener Shahzaib Hasan threw away his wicket to spin wizard Muraleedharan.

Then Shoib Malik and Afridi played a sensible partnership of 76 runs that helped Pakistan to achieve the target in the 19th over itself.

Shahid Afridi adjudged the Man of the Match award.(54 runs, 1 Wicket)
Tilakaratne Dilshan won the Man of the Series Award (317 runs at a strike-rate of 144.74 and an average above 52.)
