Historic Test Win for India
It is unbelievable that a player who has scored century in the first and second innings of the test match has not been selected for the Man of the match award. Andrew Strauss, who became only the second Englishman after Graham Gooch to score a century in each innings of a test against India, will be the most disappointed player in the England Camp because all his efforts were wasted by the blitzkrieg from the man of the match “Virender Sehwag”. The match produced three centuries, two from Strauss, and one from Sachin, but they are not considered for the Man of the Match award. It is Veeru’s aggressive batting, i.e. 83 from just 68 balls with 4 mighty sixes and 11 fours helped India to achieve this highest forth the sparkling blaster , Sehwag alone hit 11 fours on the same wicket, same day.
The master blaster enjoyed the crowd of Chidambaram stadium with his stroke play. He completed his 41 th test century in style, completed 1000 runs in this calendar year. He hit an unbeaten 103 (9 Fours) as India achieved the fourth-highest run chase in history to stun England by six wickets in the first Test. Yuvraj chipped in with 85 not out in a fifth-wicket stand of 163 with Tendulkar to dash England's hopes. Gambhir scored 66 runs and VVS scored 26 runs, the only disappointed batsman was Rahul Dravid. His miserable form continues in this test match also. He only scored 7 runs in both the innings of the test.
Sehwags’ Achievements:
Sehwag become the highest run getter in 2008 in this test series. He has so far scored 1,445 runs (batting average of 60.20 in 13 Tests) in 2008, ahead of South African Skipper Greame Smith's 1,363 runs. With his 32-ball fifty, Sehwag has set a record for the fastest Test half-century by an Indian batsman against England. Sehwag now has 65 sixes in Test cricket - a new Indian record for most career sixes, bettering Kapil Dev's tally of 61.
Congratulations for the brilliant bowling spell by Saheer, Ishant, Harbhajan and Amit Misra. Saheer took 5 wickets, Ishant, Bhaji and Misra took 4 wickets each in this test match.
Comment’s Session
Virender Sehwag: “This is Sachin's best innings I have seen. I've played for eight years and the atmosphere in the dressing room now is brilliant. We believe we can do anything. ”
Dhoni: “The toughest win. We were not present for the first three days of this Test, not batting well. It was important for us to play the next 2 days with a lot of intensity. We raised our standards. Sehwag was the play maker and without him we would have been defending this match. Sachin was brilliant and Yuvraj was amazing.”
Pietersen: “Sehwag started the innings fantastically for them. And the little master from Mumbai. It was difficult to set fields for him as captain. Our boys are hurting and we're going to come back strong in Mohali.”
