Needing 216 to win, India were facing defeat at 124-8 before Laxman came to his team's rescue. He struck an unbeaten 73 (From 79 balls, 8 Fours), to guide India to a memorable one-wicket victory over Australia. Laxman was well supported by tail-ender Ishant Sharma who produced an 81-run partnership with him to script the win. Ishant scored 31runs hitting five fours in his 92-ball knock and being trapped leg-before by Ben Hilfenhaus (4-57).
India have not lost to Australia since the infamous Sydney test in 2008 and this is India’s first one-wicket victory in tests.
